Arsenal, Man United Exit Carabao Cup

Arsenal and Manchester United are enjoying a rousing English Premier League season, but heavy defeats have seen both teams bomb out of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night, 1 November.

Old Trafford stadium in Manchester, England witnessed a sound thrashing of the home team – despite having control of the ball for most of the evening – as Newcastle’s Miguel Almiron, Lewis Hall and Joe Willock piled on the goals at the 28th-, 36th- and 60th-minute marks respectively. The final score saw a 3-0 win for the Magpies.

Meanwhile, the Gunners put on a brave front and also had the most ball possession, but that didn’t stop the night from going very wrong at London Stadium in the English capital with West Ham winning 3-1.

An own goal from Ben White at the 16th minute gave the Hammers the first goal of the night, plus strikes from Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen in the second half secured the home side’s lead to three goals, before Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard scored a consolation goal six minutes into stoppage time.

Needless to say, both losing coaches were not happy. United boss Erik ten Hag lamented that his squad were “not good enough”, while Mikel Arteta stated how “disappointed” he was with Arsenal.
